COLORS OF OHM and BLK PALATE present Well Fed Fest, a dining-meets-wellness ideas festival for Black folks and allies!  Join a mindful day of brunch, sweets, and sips while engaging with activations and vendors; attending self-care classes; joining community conversation; and learning through interactive workshops!  

Special guests include GQ and TIME Magazine featured chef, writer and activist Tunde Wey; chef and cookbook author, and NYT Cooking and Bon Appetit columnist Alison Roman; pastry chef, cookbook author, NYT and Food & Wine contributer Klancy Miller; former Eater video director and 3 time Emmy-nominated video producer Nyle Emerson; Colors of Ohm healers, and more!

Money Moves in Food Culture Klancy Miller, pastry chef and cookbook author, facilitates this candid mentorship workshop with food industry friends, and leads a discussion about finances in the food world. Come talk numbers and financially advocating for self. Sip or spill the tea on start up business costs; getting paid sustainable part-time, full-time, and freelance food world rates. Leave with financial education, strategies, resources, and advice.

  • 3:30pm-4:30pm Beyond Chef's Table: Food Video Production While Black Nyle Emerson, former Video Director at Eater, current Video Producer at Pandora, and Head of Video Production at BLK PALATE. Pull up for strategies on how he manifested his career and went from a brisket-loving rapper to a 3-time Emmy Award-nominated media maker with a resume that includes videos with over 4 million views, on 3 continents, and interviews with food legends Anthony Bourdain and Cris Comerford, the White House chef. Leave the workshop with strategies, resources, technical and social-emotional support navigating the daunting food media production world as a Black person or ally aiming to uplift diverse food stories.

  • 4:30pm-5:30pm Whose Food? Cross-Cultural Culinary Writing Engage in a community conversation with GQ and TIME Magazine featured chef, writer, and activist Tunde Wey; chef and cookbook author, NYT Cooking, and Bon Appetit columnist Alison Roman as they explore ideas around cooking, eating, and writing across cultures and ethnic influences. From journalism to essay writing to recipe sharing, we will examine the role of origin stories in food writing and interrogate ideas about cultural appropriation.
